The Obama Choppa

We are in Washington for a couple of days while Anne works at a workshop on transforming undergraduate biology education. I've been out looking at the city, and got this shot of the Washington monument.

Shortly after that, three helicopters flew over, with the lead one landing at the White House, while the other two circled overhead. After a half hour or so, they headed back in the direction of Reagan International Airport.

A closer shot of the lead chopper.

Lots more stuff to put up from the last week, I'll get to it when I have more consistent internet access!

New Mexico

We pulled over at a gas station to pick up Elin from Steve's car. Steve was heading back to work the next day, but Elin had an extra day, so we got to take her with us for one more night. You can see a storm driving quickly toward us.

Rockhound Park in New Mexico

We stopped for the night in Rockhound Park. this is one of the views from the site. Apparently lots of gemstones and geodes found in the park, I figured my nephew Jonny would like this place. No caves though.

First Day out of California

Anne, well doused with water from the hose.

On our first day out of California we crossed into Arizona near Blythe, and set up for the night at Gilbert Ray Park, a county park outside Tuscon in the Sonoran Desert amongst Saguaro Cacti.

"With the cruel heat of the summer beating down on us," Anne adds from the couch across from me, getting her bit in.

The heat made the dogs take refuge under the RV, and Anne and I doused each other with water from the hose to try and cool off a little.

Two friends of ours on their way back from Mexico stopped in to visit, and made for a great first night headed across the country.

The view from the site.

Under a surprisingly hot evening sun.

Full Time RVing

The rig is complete - today we got the hitch put on the van. This is how we will look heading down the road - turned out to be an interesting set up to drive. Tomorrow we head out of California on our one year odyssey. I feel like Captain Kirk.

Heading Out

We went to Canyon RV Park in Anaheim just off the 91 along the Santa Ana river. This is the view from our site.

Bodie took a great interest in the drainage, guarded the hose while Ben showered.

Anne taking a moment.

Myself, as seen through Anne's lens

Abie striking a glamour pose.

Maggie checking things out.

We were going to play boules, but the kids thought juggling would be more fun.

Abie shows a definite talent for juggling.

The Boules game underway. Ben and I won one round, and Anne stole one for the girls with a late brilliant toss.
Ben with the newly started campfire.

Anne snuggling with Abi by the fire.

Anne, Abi, and Ben by the fire.

As multiple bats swarmed overhead, Anne and Abi leapt in the air and called for Edward to come and take them away. (You have to be a Twilight fan.)

Towards the end of the evening.
